Coach Allen has decided to suspend leading scorer and Co-Captain Tony Hicks for Penn’s weekend games at Harvard and Dartmouth due to unsportsmanlike actions during and immediately following last Saturday’s game against Brown.

Not only did he receive a technical foul late in the second half for arguing with a referee, he allegedly twisted the hand of a Brown player during the post-game handshake.
Sadly, this is the third straight season that Mr. Hicks has been suspended. The last two years have involved unsportsmanlike behavior late in the season. For a person that needs every win to keep his job, Coach Allen is to be commended for doing the sitting down his team leader.
While Penn has little chance of chance of beating Harvard, the Dartmouth game appears to be one that they can be more competetive. Since Hicks is the most talented player on the team, his loss certainly makes things more difficult for the Quakers.
Even if the team loses both games, maybe there is a silver lining. Having Hicks out of the game can allow Antonio Woods to definitively run the point, have Matt Howard to be a primary part of the offense and get Sam Jones extra minutes to shoot from the outside. It will also be interesting to see if Darnell Foreman gets back into the mix or will Matt Poplowski continue to take Foreman’s spot in the rotation.
No matter how things shake out with the players minutes, this depleted team will probably be tired by the second half against the more evenly matched Big Green and end up with a two-loss weekend.
