Penn women’s basketball tops Ivy League Preseason Media Poll, projected to pull off three-peat

A three-peat is on its way if the Ivy League Preseason Media Poll for this upcoming season is on the mark.

Released Wednesday, the poll projects Penn to win its third straight Ivy League championship, the third time in four seasons the Red and Blue were chosen to finish atop the league.

Mike McLaughlin’s squad returns 12 letterwinners, three starters, two All-Ivy honorees, and Ivy League Player of the Year Michelle Nwokedi from a team that reached the postseason for the fifth straight year. The Quakers were 22-8 last year, including 13-1 in Ivy play, and earned the Ivy League title and a NCAA Tournament berth, losing to Texas A&M in the first round after squandering a 21-point lead with eight and a half minutes to play.

Princeton received five first-place votes, having last won the league with an undefeated regular season in 2014-15.

Votes came from two members of each school’s media contingent in addition to one national voter.

*First place votes in parenthesis
1.     Penn (12) 129
2.     Princeton (5) 120

  1. Huge games for Tiger women and men to open Ivy season at The Palestra. Actually, pretty big games for Quaker squads as well. An upset could set the tone for entire regular season
