The pattern was largely the same, but unfortunately for Yale, the result was different from some recent comeback wins in the Bulldogs’ 59-52 loss at Drexel Tuesday.
The Bulldogs fell behind Drexel, 31-12, and were down 33-24 at the half.
The third quarter was a different story. Yale won the stanza, 18-8, with Camilla Emsbo scoring 12 of her 21 points. The visitors took a 42-41 lead.
The last stanza was back and forth. Yale moved up 49-46, and then the Dragons went on a seven-point run. Yale got within 53-52, but Drexel closed the game scoring the final six points.
Emsbo led her team with 21 points and nine rebounds.
Yale committed just 10 turnovers against a veteran senior team.
”I am very proud of our team’s fight against a senior-led, very experienced team,” Yale coach Allison Guth said.
Yale fell to 6-5, not able to come back like it did in wins over Fairfield and Boston University. Drexel of the Colonial Athletic Association improved to 8-2.
Yale is home at John J. Lee Amphitheater on Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. against Army.
