Dartmouth men trip up Cornell in Ivy League Tournament race

Cornell men made just 40% of its shots and turned the ball over 18 times at Dartmouth Friday night, falling 71-59, to the Big Green.

Dartmouth (6-15, 3-7 Ivy) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just 30 seconds in part of Cornell (13-9, 5-6) turnovers. Both teams struggled mightily from the field, but with 9:33 left in the first half, the Big Red opened a seven-point lead after a Sarju Patel 3-pointer. But the Big Green held the visitors to just four more points in the half and inched to within two at the half.

Kobe Dickson scored just 10 seconds into the second half for the Big Red, but it was all Dartmouth afterward. The Big Green opened a 20-6 run to take a 42-32 lead with 12:57 to go. Cornell slowly chipped away, taking a 55-53 lead with 3:40 left. However, Dartmouth outscored the Big Red 18-4 down the stretch to win by 12.

Junior forward Dame Adelekun led Dartmouth with 19 points off perfect 7-for-7 shooting and added eight rebounds. Aaryn Rai and Taurus Samuels each chipped in 12 while Rai led the team with 10 rebounds. Brendan Barry scored eight off two 3-pointers.

As a team, Dartmouth made 47% of their shots and 21 of their 30 free-throws. The Big Green outrebounded Cornell, 37-24.

Freshman Nazir Williams scored 14 points off the bench for the Big Red, while Dean Noll added 11. Sean Hansen scored 10. Cornell fouled 27 times, recorded 18 turnovers and allowed 10 offensive rebounds. Their starters shot a combined 9-for-26 from the field.

Next up, Cornell travels to Harvard with fourth place and tiebreakers in the Ivy League on the line. Dartmouth hosts Columbia in the battle of the bottom two teams in the league standings.
