The Yale women’s basketball team took a cultural and basketball trip to Barcelona, Spain and Nice, France last week.
The Bulldogs likely were more successful with the cultural activities, dropping both games played.
In the opener, played in Barcelona against El Pacto on Aug. 8, the game was knotted at 59 and then the home team went on to a 73-66 win.
Youth shone for the Bulldogs, as the sophomore class accounted for 37 points and the first-years had 20.
Yale was led in scoring by sophomore guard Ke’iara Odume with 15 points.
“We had a good showing. We played hard,” coach Dalila Eshe noted after the game.
In the second and final game of the tour on Aug. 11, the Bulldogs took on Antibes Select in Nice. Yale trailed 34-30 at the half. Antibes came away with a 76-65 win.
Sophomore guard Ciniya Moore led Yale with 16 points and senior guard Kiley Capstraw contributed 14.
“We were playing against national-team caliber players,” Eshe said. “I was proud of their (Yale) effort.”
Yale finished at 4-23 last season and 3-11 in Ivy play. The Bulldogs are expected to be picked near the bottom of the league by the media this season. But they have an interesting blend of first-years and two transfers. Their premier out-of-conference game this season is at Penn State on .
