Entering Ivy play in Charlie Creme’s Next Four Out, the Lions now likely can wave the dream of an at-large bid goodbye after going down in the second quarter before Cornell pulled ahead for good late in the third en route to a 67–60 upset.
Despite playing in the friendly confines of Levien Gym, the Lions (9-5, 0-1 Ivy) just couldn’t find an offensive rhythm. Senior forward/guard Perri Page led the way with 24 points, and junior guard Fliss Henderson had a strong game with 16 rebounds. But critically, Columbia had zero bench points and junior guard Riley Weiss had her worst shooting performance of the season, making just one field goal.
Senior forward Emily Pape led the way for the Big Red (5-8, 1-0) with 19 points, with junior guard/forward Rachel Kaus adding 15 points and three offensive rebounds.

The conference-opening win was the fifth in the last six games for the Crimson and upped the team’s overall mark to 8-6, while the Big Green dropped its third straight game to a Division I opponent and moved to 9-5 on the year.

The Tigers’ newest victim was an old rival, the Penn Quakers, whom the Tigers outlasted, 74-68, at the Palestra on Saturday afternoon.
Penn suffered its 15th straight setback to Princeton, but if there is any such thing as a silver lining in losing, the Quakers can find one in this game. After outplaying Princeton for nearly three quarters of the game, the Quakers showed they are a legitimate contender in the Ancient Eight this season.

Quakeaways from Penn men’s basketball’s win over NJIT
Penn closed out the nonconference portion of its schedule strong, using a 17-0 run early in the second half to power its way past NJIT for an 80-61 win.
The Quakers (7-6) entered Wednesday as 14.5 point favorites, but certainly didn’t look the part in the early stages after a litany of injuries forced coach Fran McCaffery to tap players normally stuck on the bench. It took a buzzer-beating three from sophomore point guard AJ Levine to get Penn into the halftime locker room with a narrow two-point lead.
McCaffery ratcheted down the substitutions in the second half and Levine put together arguably his best half in a Penn uniform. During that aforementioned 17-0 run, Levine put up a personal 8-0 scoring burst and added two steals and two assists, to boot. The Highlanders (5-10) never trailed by single digits again the rest of the afternoon.
