Just how vulnerable is Princeton men’s basketball?

PRINCETON, N.J. – By now, you’ve probably seen Dalen Davis’ game-winning three-pointer to beat Akron 76-75 on Monday afternoon, completing a remarkable comeback, not for the first time this season for Princeton.


The win over the Zips (7-5) may have been the most impressive comeback, down 11 with seven minutes left, but the Tigers also overcame deficits against Iona, Northeastern, Merrimack, Monmouth and Rutgers.


Impressive fortitude, yes. But is it a sign of a veteran team that will continue to do this for the next few months, or an ominous omen that the preseason Ivy League favorites might be extremely vulnerable this season?

Ivy men’s basketball Media Day highlights

With the non-conference schedule set to begin in less than three weeks, the Ivy League held its annual Media Day on Tuesday afternoon. The three-hour event, hosted by Lance Medow, featured coaches and players from each of the eight programs.

Princeton men’s basketball is poised to enter what promises to be an eventful Ivy League campaign beginning Saturday against the Harvard Crimson at Jadwin Gym.
Skipper Mitch Henderson has compiled an enviable record of 208 wins against 116 losses, a winning percentage of 63%. Since he took the helm in 2011, he has won four Ivy titles and two Ivy tournament crowns. His record playing Ivy teams is a glittering 111-48. He joins Pete Carril, who recruited him as a player, as the only two Tiger coaches to have amassed more than 100 league wins. In 2017, after a 16-0 run through the league and the inaugural Ivy tourney, he was named Ivy League Coach of the Year.

In the second consecutive game without sophomore guard Nazir Williams, the Cornell men capitalized on a hot start to lead by 10 at the half.

But Princeton flipped the switch in the second half, scoring 54 points and connecting on 66% of its shots to fend off the Big Red, 89-82, Friday at Jadwin Gymnasium.
