Dominant third quarter propels Harvard women’s basketball past Holy Cross

Down two at the half, the Harvard women used a 17-0 third quarter to put away Holy Cross 61-46 on Wednesday evening at Lavietes Pavilion.

The Crimson’s victory was even more impressive given the fact that the team was missing two starters and three of its top six rotation players due to injuries, as well as having its travel scheduled delayed by 10 to 12 hours due to connecting flight problems after the win at Arkansas on Sunday.

The win brought Carrie Moore’s squad back to the .500 level at 5-5 on the year, while the Crusaders fell to 3-5.

Abbey Hsu makes history as Columbia women shoot past Holy Cross, 80-69, in first round of WNIT

It was a historic night for Columbia women’s basketball.

The Lions won their first non-Ivy League Tournament postseason game since joining Division I in 1986 Wednesday night by topping Holy Cross at Levien Gym, 80-69, in the first round of the WNIT as All-Ivy first-teamer Abbey Hsu made a lot of history of her own.

Brown coach Mike Martin isn’t going anywhere

Around 7:15 Thursday morning, Brown Athletics sent out a tweet that implied men’s head coach Mike Martin was receiving a contract extension:

4 years as a student-athlete at @BrownUniversity and 7 as @BrownBasketball head coach and, thankfully, many more to come for @mmartinbrown! #evertrue

A little over an hour later, Jon Rothstein tweeted out a more definitive message:

Brown’s Mike Martin has received a long term contract extension, per release.

However, when Ivy Hoops Online requested a copy of the release from Brown Athletics that afternoon, we were informed that the department could not “confirm or deny that there was an extension.”

Yale all-time moment No. 2: CIT final berth in 2014

We’re counting down the top 10 moments in each Ivy school’s history as part of our Ivy League at 60 retrospective. Yale is next by request of Ivy Player of the Year Justin Sears.

Yale”s run through the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) first round in 2014 was quite the roller coaster. First, a three-pointer banked in by Justin Sears with 0.07 seconds left gave Yale a 69-68 squeaker over Quinnipiac. Then in the second round, Yale prevailed at Holy Cross, 71-66, overcoming a 66-65 deficit with 1:43 remaining to make James Jones online casino the winningest coach in Yale basketball history (surpassing Joe Vancisin). Yale”s next win came by a 72-69 at Ivy rival Columbia, which had beaten the Bulldogs 62-46 on the same Levien Gym floor.
