A Christmas season miracle lifts Princeton women’s basketball to an overtime win at George Mason

Do you believe in miracles? How about two of them?

Trailing 63-56 late in the fourth quarter, the Princeton women’s basketball team scored seven points in 15 seconds to force George Mason into overtime.

Then, like Lazarus, the Tigers rallied from the grave in the extra stanza to pull out yet another road win, 71-69, on Saturday afternoon at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va. It was the first ever meeting between the two programs.

The triumph, the ninth in a row for the No. 25 Tigers, may be the most memorable and improbable comeback in the storied history of Princeton women’s basketball.

Playing against a power-conference opponent, the Princeton women’s basketball team fell behind early, trailed by four at half, then rallied in the second half to grind out a big win.

On Saturday afternoon, that’s exactly what the Tigers did. Again. Except this time, Princeton’s offense exploded to take down Penn State, 100-93, in the opening clash of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Another game, another fourth-quarter comeback.

So it goes this season for the Princeton women’s basketball team, which rallied again in the fourth quarter to win its home opener over Rice, 69-56, at Jadwin Gymnasium.

In the first ever meeting between the two programs, the Tigers once again made things difficult for themselves by missing shots early and often.

After Madison St. Rose tallied a layup to open the scoring for Princeton, a series of six missed shots and two turnovers resulted in eight consecutive empty possessions for the Tigers, a near-replay of Princeton’s first-quarter performance at Maryland on Sunday.

So far, the Princeton women’s basketball team’s dream season has unfolded, well, like a dream.

The Tigers have opened up the 2025-26 campaign with two big road wins over power-conference opponents, both in exhilarating fashion. In each game, the Tigers trailed for a majority of the contest only to have the lights suddenly come on in the final stanza. 

In the team’s season opener Sunday at Georgia Tech, Carla Berube’s squad overcame a sluggish first quarter and an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win, 67-61.

Three days later at Villanova, the Tigers rallied in carbon-copy fashion from a 10-point deficit in the fourth to win again, 73-68.

Princeton women’s basketball holds on to beat Cornell, 62-54, for first road win in two months

In basketball, size matters.

Just ask Parker Hill, Princeton’s 6-foot-4 senior center, who scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, both career highs, in Princeton’s 62-54 triumph over Cornell on Saturday at Newman Arena in Ithaca.

“Well, what was working is we definitely put an emphasis on looking into the post,” Hill told the ESPN+ broadcast crew. “We definitely had a size advantage there . . . I think I got the benefit of my teammates seeing me . . . So yeah, I think it’s just a little tough. Size is tough to match, so I think [Cornell] did a great job. But in the end, [size] won out.”

The win gave the Tigers a two-game sweep of the Big Red and provided Princeton with its first road win since November 29, when the Orange and Black defeated Temple, 62-57, in Philadelphia. The win was Princeton’s 15th consecutive triumph over Cornell.
